Where does my money go? A map, an hour grid and habits over years

Money goes where a single amount is too small to notice and the repetitions are too many to count in your head. Kasandro shows this in three layers: the "Where the cash leaks" hints on the home screen, each a fact with a number from your own transactions; a real map of where you pay, with a weekday-by-hour grid; and a year-on-year comparison that shows how a habit has changed since 2022.

Where does my money go: three hints on the home screen

The home screen opens with three observations, not a pie chart. For Marek from Rybnik (sample data) in September 2026 they read:

  • Żabka, the corner shop: 52 visits, 41 of them after 6 pm, 1,214 zł. More than fuel and subscriptions combined.
  • Fuel: 640 zł, 38 % more than in August. 4 of 11 fill-ups on a Saturday.
  • Three subscriptions: 110.98 zł a month. Netflix unchanged since March.

A hint is a fact with a number, and one tap opens the transactions it came from. Hints come from five detectors: visit frequency and time concentration, a category change against the previous cycle, subscriptions, pairs of places visited on the same day, and the year-on-year habit comparison. They are ranked by amount, so the most expensive one is always on top. A hint never tells you what to do and never names a product. It says what happened.

The same facts go into the monthly letter from your future self, so the numbers in the letter and on the screen always agree.

The map: real streets, not an illustration

A card payment or a cash withdrawal carries a place and a time. Kasandro draws them on a real map with the streets you are used to, adds a heat layer and a ranked list of places: name, total, number of visits, share of spending. You filter by a range of years and by category.

Marek's map shows one cluster: the gym, Lidl, Żabka and a petrol station within 900 metres of each other. After the gym he goes into Lidl, and on the way home into Żabka. A bank statement cannot show this, because every visit is a separate small line. It appears only when the places sit next to each other on a map.

The map also says what it does not know. Every place carries a precision flag: exact address, city only, or unknown. Transactions without an exact location go into a "no exact location" bucket for their city and are shown that way, never pinned to a guessed point.

Tapping a place works like tapping the river: you see the transactions behind its total, the trend over recent months and, if the place is a hint, the hint itself. From the same panel you change the category ("Żabka is always Food") or ask the assistant "why so much here?".

The weekday-by-hour grid

The second layer is a grid: seven days by 24 hours, each cell shaded by how much you spent in that hour. For Marek the deepest cells are Saturday between 10 am and 6 pm (Lidl, Orlen, Żabka) and weekday evenings after 6 pm (Żabka). The grid uses only transactions for which the bank returns a time; the rest count towards the monthly total but not the grid, and the grid says so.

Habits over years: 31 shop visits in 2022, 52 in 2026

The third layer is time at a longer scale. Kasandro reads up to 24 months of history from the bank (as much as the bank returns) and builds whole cycles from it. A habit is counted over whole cycles only, never over a partial month, and only once there are at least three cycles. That is why "in 2022 you went to the shops 31 times a month; in 2026 it is 52" comes from the same rules applied to the same data, not from an impression.

If your salary arrives on the 27th, you set a cycle start day and every monthly number runs from payday to payday. On desktop the "Years" colour mode draws the 2022 river and the 2026 river side by side at the same scale, so a wider ribbon shows at a glance which habit grew.

What is counted and what is never guessed

QuestionHow Kasandro counts itWhat Kasandro does not do
How many times did I go to the shop?card payments at the same outlet within 10 minutes are one visitit does not count every transaction as a visit
Where was it?the place from the card payment, with a precision flag (exact / city / unknown)it does not pin a payment to a guessed address
What time?the time from the bank, only where the bank returns itit does not make up a time
Is it a subscription?at least 3 payments in a 28-32 day rhythm, amount within 15 %it does not say "unused" without a usage signal
Which shop is it?"ZABKA Z9388 RYBNIK" becomes Żabka, outlet Z9388, Rybnikan unknown merchant stays unknown until you name it
What is it worth in 30 years?arithmetic at a rate you set yourselfit does not forecast and does not say what to do

How to see your own map in ten minutes

  1. Enter your e-mail and a six-digit code. No password.
  2. Choose "For me", "For us" or "I invest", and the market (Poland at launch; the language is a separate choice, and English is one of five).
  3. Read one consent screen: read-only, Enable Banking as the licensed PSD2 provider, consent valid for 90 or 180 days depending on the bank, delete at any time.
  4. Pick your bank from the current Enable Banking list for Poland and log in through your bank's own app.
  5. Tick the accounts Kasandro may read. One is preselected; every further account is 4.99 zł a month.
  6. Come back and watch the river fill: fetching transactions, matching own transfers, done.
  7. Answer at most three questions in the review queue ("is this 2,800 zł transfer to PKO your own account?") or postpone them.
  8. Your first full picture: the river, three hints, the map and the hour grid.

You pay after you have seen the full picture, not before: 4.99 zł a month per connected account, everything included, a year for the price of ten months (pricing). Before connecting a bank you can see the same thing on Marek's data in the demo without login.

FAQ

How does the map know where I paid?

From the place of the card payment that the bank returns with the transaction. When the bank returns only the outlet name, Kasandro resolves the outlet's address and marks the precision. When it cannot, it shows the city and says so.

Does the map work if I pay cash?

A cash withdrawal has a place and a time, so it lands on the map as "cash" at that spot. Kasandro does not know what the cash bought, and does not guess.

Does Kasandro compare me with other people?

No. The only comparison is you against yourself in the previous cycle and in previous years. Kasandro does not know other users' spending and builds no averages from it.

What if my bank returns less than 24 months?

Kasandro shows what the bank returns. Habits over years appear once there are at least three whole cycles; until then the screen says how many cycles are missing.

Are the hints financial advice?

No. A hint is an observation from your own transactions with a number and a link to its source. It does not say what to buy, sell or borrow.

Kasandro is an insight tool for your finances, not investment or financial advice. It shows what happened and what it adds up to under assumptions you set; what to do about it is your call.
