Kasandro on your phone: add it to your home screen (Android, iPhone)

Kasandro is built for the phone first, and you will be able to add it to your home screen on Android and iPhone without an app store: the icon opens it full screen, without the browser bar, like an app. Kasandro is not open yet, so this is how it is built and how it will work; the steps below are the same ones that work for any website today.

What "phone first" means here

Every Kasandro screen is designed at 390 pixels wide first, and the desktop gets more air afterwards. On every code change our browser tests load the main pages on a phone-sized screen (an iPhone 13 profile, plus a 360-pixel-wide check in light and dark) and fail the build if a page scrolls sideways or the install files are missing. Kasandro ships a web app manifest (name, start page, standalone display, 192 and 512 pixel icons and a maskable icon) and an Apple touch icon, which is what the home-screen install uses. The security page lists the other checks that run on every change.

Android (Chrome), step by step

1. Open Kasandro in Chrome on your Android phone.
2. Tap the three-dot menu next to the address bar.
3. Choose "Install app" or "Add to Home screen". Google's help calls it "Install and create shortcut"; the label depends on the Chrome version.
4. Confirm with "Install" (or "Add") and follow the prompts.
5. Open Kasandro from the new icon on your home screen. It opens without the browser bar.

iPhone (Safari), step by step

1. Open Kasandro in Safari on your iPhone.
2. Tap the Share button (in some layouts it sits in the page menu, three dots).
3. Scroll the list and tap "Add to Home Screen". If you do not see it, scroll to the bottom, tap "Edit Actions" and add it.
4. Tap "Add". If your iOS offers an "Open as Web App" switch, you can leave it on.
5. Open Kasandro from the new icon on your home screen.

What you get, and what you do not

• You get a home-screen icon and a full-screen window, with no app store, no download and nothing to update by hand: it is the same site.
• It is still the website, so it needs an internet connection. We do not claim offline use or notifications.
